Roots has no ads and no algorithmic feed, and it never will — the business is subscriptions and a share of what creators earn, so there is nothing to gain from keeping anyone scrolling. When someone joins your community, they arrive as a whole person with a profile, friends and a life outside your door.

Before you start
- What does it cost to start?
- Nothing. You can create your community, shape it, upload lessons and preview the whole thing without paying anything. Billing only begins once you push it live.
- What happens after the free month?
- Your first month live is free of the monthly platform fee. After that you keep the community open on the Community plan ($9/month) or Studio ($49/month). If neither is active, the community stops being listed and stops taking new paid members.
- Is the revenue share also free during the first month?
- No. The monthly fee is waived, but the revenue share — 5% on Community, 2.9% on Studio — applies from the very first membership you sell. Stripe's own processing fees are separate.
- How do I get paid?
- Through your own Stripe account, connected in a few minutes. Payouts from new accounts are held for 30 days as a safety margin against refunds and disputes, then run on a normal schedule.
- Can my community be free for members?
- Yes — charging members is optional. Going live does require a plan (from US$9/month, first month free), but building and previewing your community costs nothing until you open the doors.
- Is a free showcase Page also a community?
- No. An artist Page is a different, free thing: people follow it, see everything you post, and there is nothing to join and nothing to pay. You'll find it at Roots for artists (rootsocial.app/for-artists). A community is for when you want a members' space with tiers.
- What makes this different from the other community platforms?
- Roots is a personal network first. Your members are people with real profiles and real friends here, not anonymous handles. There are no ads, no algorithmic feed and no reason for us to sell attention — our income is subscriptions and your revenue share, and nothing else.
