What is Roots?

Why is Roots invite-only?

Roots stays small and closed on purpose. You need an invite code from someone already on Roots to sign up. If you don't have one, you can join the waitlist from the homepage instead, and we'll reach out.

What's the waitlist / seedlist?

It's a simple list for people who want to join but don't have an invite code yet. We only use the email you give us to send an invite, nothing else.

Who can see my feed?

Your posts are shown to the audience you choose for each one: just you, close friends, all friends (your mutual friends — nobody wider), or friends & followers. Posts in a Room are visible to that Room's members, and posts on a Page to anyone who can see that Page. The feed you scroll — the personal list of posts from people and Pages you follow — is only ever visible to you, and neither its contents nor who you follow are visible to anyone else.

What does "Friends & Followers" mean on a post?

For a personal post, it means the post is visible to you, your friends, and your followers. It does not mean anyone on the internet can see it — Roots is invite-only, so it still stays inside Roots. For a Page post, anyone who follows or visits that Page can see it. It says nothing about your own feed; following something and seeing it in your feed stays private to you.

Is there an exception?

Yes, exactly one: if you choose to share a post to your own timeline, your friends will see that you shared it. That's the one deliberate, visible action — nothing else about what you follow ever crosses over automatically.

What's a Room?

A small, topic-based space where a capped group of members post into a shared space together — more like a group chat with structure than a public feed.

How is a Room different from a Page?

A Room is symmetric (everyone in it is a member together); a Page is a public presence you follow, not join.

What's a Page?

A public presence on Roots for a business, club, or organization — separate from a personal profile, and built to be found by people who don't already know you. You can create a Page or find Pages to follow.

How much does it cost?

Every account can create up to three Pages for free. Roots+ Business is an optional paid tier for Pages that outgrow the free tier's follower cap or want fuller analytics, multi-admin support, and more storage.

How is following a Page different from following or friending a person?

You don't need to be friends with a Page — you follow it, the same way you might follow a person who's turned on Followers. A Page's posts show up in your feed once you follow it, same as anyone else you follow.

Does a Page go live immediately?

No — every new Page is reviewed by a person before it's visible to anyone but its admins. This keeps what's discoverable on Roots real.

Can I have more than one Page?

Yes — the free tier includes up to three Pages per account, each with its own 2GB of storage and its own follower allowance. If you manage more than that, reach out and we'll help.

What's the Room that comes with my Page?

Pages on Roots+ Business include a bundled Room — a smaller, closer space alongside your Page's public updates, for people who want to actually talk with you, not just follow along. Following your Page and joining your Room are two separate actions: someone can follow, join the Room, both, or neither. When you post an update on your Page, it automatically shows up inside the Room too, so members never miss anything — though you can post a Room-only or Page-only update instead when you want to. The Room isn't included with a free Page; it's one of the things Roots+ Business adds.

What's the difference between Roots+ and Roots+ Business?

Roots+ is the personal paid tier (extra storage, and other personal perks). Roots+ Business is for Pages that need more than the free tier offers — a higher follower cap, fuller analytics, multiple admins, and more storage.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, from your account settings, for either tier.

What happens if I report a Page or a post?

It goes to a moderator for review, the same way personal-account reports already work.

Are Pages checked before they're allowed on Roots?

Yes — every new Page goes through review before it's visible to the public, to keep spam and bad-faith accounts out. Our community guidelines explain what we allow.

Can I connect Roots to Claude?

Yes, if you're on Roots+. Head to Settings and look for “Connect to Claude” — it works with Claude and other MCP-compatible assistants too. Once connected, you can ask it to catch you up on your Rooms and messages, search your own posts, draft a post or reply, or check on a Page you run.

What can Claude actually see?

Only what you could already see in the app yourself — the same privacy rules that keep a private Room private apply here too. Claude can't see anyone else's private posts, messages, or Pages, and it can't reach moderation or billing information at all.

Question 21

Can Claude post or message people without me knowing?

Accepted Answer

No. Drafting a post never publishes it — that still needs you. And before Claude sends a message on your behalf, Roots holds it for a short window and sends you a notification with the exact text, so you can cancel it before it goes out.

Question 22

Do I have to allow everything, or can I just let it read?

Accepted Answer

You choose. Reading and drafting/sending are separate permissions, and you can turn either on or off, or disconnect completely, any time from Settings.
